Latvian Theatre, Modern and Classical Dances to be Performed at Marblehead School of Ballet on March 29

Marblehead School of Ballet welcomes spring with a performance of two plays, modern dance, and classical ballet on March 29.

The Marblehead School of Ballet is opening its doors and celebrating the arrival of the eagerly awaited spring season. The performing arts institution will present a fun filled, cultural afternoon of Latvian theatre and classical and modern dance repertoire from the Marblehead School of Ballet on Sunday, March 29 at 3:00 p.m. at 115 Pleasant Street in Marblehead, Massachusetts. General admission is $5.

DRAMA

Budding actors Christian Grant, Gordy Whalen, Anastasia Kupperman, Isabel Howard and Glen Sanphy will perform in the plays Aurora Borealis and Inuit, Snowflakes, White Wolf, Snow Owl, Queen Sedna. These up and coming thespians have been studying with instructor and prominent playwright, poet, and theater director Dace Micāne-Zālīte in the Marblehead School of Ballet’s newly launched drama program.

Twelve-year-old Christian Grant is excited to perform in the play. He has studied acting for almost six years, performing in nearly 24 plays, including William Shakespeare’s As You Like It.

“The class with Dace has been one of the most fun experiences. I have learned a lot and especially liked the improvisation we did at the beginning of the session. I can’t wait to do the next class,” said Grant, a sixth grade student at Village School in Marblehead.

DANCE

Marblehead School of Ballet dancers Emma Barbin, Gabby Todtfield, and Mia Chung will perform the modern dance piece, Can I Steal A Minute?, by choreographer and modern dance instructor Ivan Korn. Additional dance works that will be performed include an excerpt from Five Nights and A Day by Richard Colton and other pieces.

Meet Marblehead School of Ballet director Paula K. Shiff, recipient of Salem State University’s 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts; drama instructor Dace Micāne-Zālīte; and modern dance instructor/choreographer Ivan Korn. Refreshments will be served after the performance. The program is supported in part by the North Shore Civic Ballet and the Ruth N. Shiff Memorial.
