Local Foundation, Residents Raise Funds for Marblehead Student Injured Overseas

Here's how you can help as Marblehead High student Ben Farrar fights to recover after an accident in France.

Marblehead High School senior Ben Farrar remains hospitalized in a Nice, France, hospital and several local efforts are underway to help defray the costs of his care and and treatment.

A post on the Ben Farrar’s Status page on Facebook explains that all donations given online to the Greg Hill Foundation through Tuesday, April 27 will be earmarked for Farrar. (To donate, head to the website and click on the “donate” button in the upper, right-hand corner of the page. All donations that come in through April 27 will automatically go to Farrar’s care).

The foundation has agreed to match the first $5,000 in donations, according to the post.

Additionally, a Marblehead fitness instructor, Jennifer Frontero will donate all the proceeds from her classes this week of her upcoming classes to Farrar’s care and to help with travel costs for his family. Her class schedule is available here.

There will also be a special donation-based class on Saturday, May 2, at The Yoga Loft. This “Class of Hope, Prayer and Support for the Farrar Family,” will take place at 8:15 a.m., May 2.

Farrar was injured on April 19 while on a trip with school friends in Cannes, France. He unknowingly dived into shallow water and sustained a spinal cord injury. Doctors in France are working to stabilize Farrar so he can be transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital for further care.
