Local Students Walk For a Cure

Students from Marblehead's Village School and Veterans Middle School recently participated in A Walk For a Cure, aimed at raising money for diabetes research.

Two Marblehead Schools raise recently laced up to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

On June 20, 700 students and staff from the participated in a Kids Walk for a Cure to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

During the two-week fundraising period, $10,416.85 was raised by this enthusiastic group of students. Many students went door-to-door asking for donations, held lemonade stands and set up camp outside of various stores seeking donations.

On the day of the Walk, students and staff listened to an inspirational talk from Kayen Cherry, son of Village's assisatant principle Danielle Cherry, who suffers from Type 1 diabetes before embarking on their one-mile trek around the track at Hopkins Field.

On May 27 the also participated in a Kids Walk for a Cure during their Phys.ed and health classes.Lead by phys. ed. teachers Pat MacIntosh and Kyle Wachtel the students of MVMS raised $5,682.00 for JDRF in its mission to find a cure for diabetes.

Thanks to both schools a substantial amount of money has been donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and many of Marbleheads students and families are now aware of the warning signs and complications of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
