Magicians Beat Big Blue 21-7
Marblehead torched Swampscott 21-7 in the annual Thanksgiving Day football game this morning.
The Marblehead Magicians ran past the Big Blue this morning at Piper Field and right into the first round of the playoffs.
Will Quigley scored twice for the home team, and earned high marks from his coach, Jim Rudloff, after the 21-7 victory.
“The kid’s amazing, everyone in the place know he’s going to get the ball and he still does what he does,” Rudloff said. “He’s an amazing kid and an amazing athlete.”
The opposing quarterbacks, Ian Maag and Swampscott’s Mike Walsh both had praise for Quigley.
“He’s our guy, our offense runs through him,” Maag said. “I’m confident every time I give him the ball.”
“Will played a good game for them, he came up big for them today,” Walsh said.
Walsh scored the only touchdown for Swampscott, making the score 14-7 Marblehead, before Quigley’s second score of the game late in the fourth quarter.
“It’s great to win our last game at Piper Field,” Quigley said. “All the credit goes to my offensive line, they played great.”
“We never got going, it was liked we were playing in slow motion,” Big Blue coach Steve Dembowski said. “Credit to Marblehead, they showed up and we didn’t, we dropped passes, we missed tackles, we committed penalties, a tough game for us.”
The Magicians (5-0, 8-2 overall) play Wakefield next Tuesday for the right to play in the Super Bowl. Marblehead Patch will post the game location when it’s announced on Friday.
With the loss, Swampscott finishes the season at 9-2.
