MHS Boys' Hockey Downed 3-2

Swampscott earned a close win over Marblehead Wednesday night.

's boys' varsity hockey team gave Swampscott all it could handle, but in the end, the Big Blue had just enough to escape Rockett Arena with a 3-2 win Wednesday night.

Swampscott got goals from Gino Cresta, Matt Videtta, and Nunzio Morretti in each period while goalie Patrick Sheehan kept the Magicians at bay to preserve the win.   The win solidified Swampscott's hold on the top spot in the Northeastern Conference South Division (3-0, 4-1 overall) while Marblehead fell to 2-2 in the conference and 2-3-1 overall.

Swampscott drew out to the lead after Marblehead's Tyler Peterson went off for roughing at 9:49 of the first period.  Fifty-nine seconds later Gino Cresta converted a Matt Videtta pass and from the left wing snuck a shot past Marblehead goalie Mike Harper.

The teams exchanged goals in the second, Trevor Massey tying the game at 1 but Videtta pushing Swampscott to a 2-1 lead at the end of the second period.  Nunzio Moretti scored what turned out to be the game-winner just 32 seconds into the third period. Marblehead's Ian Maag answered with just under five minutes left to make it a one goal game, but the Blue withstood Marblehead's late game efforts to hang on to the win.
