Marblehead $132K Grant To Study Climate Crisis Coastal Resiliency

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead intends to use a $131,795 grant to develop plans to help mitigate the effects of climate change in the coastal area of Marblehead Municipal Light, Hammond Park and the adjoining infrastructure.

Marblehead Municpal Light will provide matching funds to the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management grant.

The town said the project will help implement plans for near-term floodproofing measures, while also working to identify long-term adaptation strategies with stakeholder input.

"This will be a terrific project and partnership between the town and the MMLD, which is covering the grant match requirement," town officials said. "It is a good example of the old saying, 'plan the work, work the plan.'"

Officials said this project is the result of similar work done with the Woods Hole Group and the Salem Sound Coastwatch project called "Increasing Resilience through Community Engagement: Facilitating Implementation of Climate Adaptation Strategies for Marblehead and its Harbor."
