Marblehead Awarded $19K Grant To Improve High School Entrance

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A $19,300 grant from the state's Shared Streets and Spaces Program will go toward improvements to the back entrance of Marblehead High School from the post office.

Town Manager Jason Silva said the grant will allow for the installation of a new gate that is more accessible as well as both pedestrian- and bike-friendly.

The Marblehead grant is part of $6.5 million in state awards through the latest round of funding developed 13 months ago to help cities and towns redesign and redevelop public spaces for recreation and business use amid the coronavirus health crisis.

"Community leaders know each street corner and know each block of their business districts and have been very innovative in thinking about projects and thoughtfully applying for this funding," Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito said.
