Marblehead Baseball Falls Short In Loss To Reading
First-round loss ends team's postseason dreams.
The Marblehead Varsity baseball team did everything it could to get itself into the postseason, earning victories in must-win back-to-back games against Swampscott and Salem, but its postseason ended as quickly as it began.
Facing off against the third-seed Reading Memorial High School Hornets, who finished second in last year's state tournament, proved too much for the 14th seed Magicians as they fell 9-0 in the Division 2 North first-round game Friday afternoon in Reading.
The game, which began on Thursday, was postponed because of inclement weather with Marblehead trailing by two runs after three innings. When play resumed Friday afternoon, the Hornets opened up their lead beyond the Header's reach.

The Magicians end their season at 10-11 while the Hornets advance to play Danvers in the state quarterfinals on Monday.
