Marblehead Boys' Lacrosse Hammers Triton

Marblehead offense explodes in the first quarter, leading to a convincing 13-5 victory over Triton Monday morning.

Marblehead High School's boys' lacrosse team celebrated Patriots' Day by dismantling Triton 13-5 before their home crowd Monday morning.

The Magicians came out strong on both offense and defense, building a 5-0 lead before the end of the first quarter. The early rush was sparked by senior Alex Whitmore, who scored two of his five goals in the first.

Marblehead kept the pressure on in the second quarter, scoring two more goals before taking a comfortable 7-0 lead into halftime.

"The first quarter we had great ball movement, we got a little relaxed in the second quarter and by the third quarter we got back into our rhythm," head coach John Wilkens said after the game. "In the fourth quarter we were able to get everyone in there. These guys work really hard at practice and we always like to get everyone some playing time."

Marblehead's defense remained stingy until the middle of the third quarter, when Triton wasn't able to get on the board and make the game 8-1. Two more quick goals from Whitmore, however, stretched the lead to 10-1 and Marblehead never looked back.

It wasn't until Marblehead's coaches began cycling out the starters that Triton was able to make a late run, scoring three of the games last five goals to finish 13-5.

Marblehead (4-1) will travel to Salem to play under the lights on Thursday April 21. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
