Marblehead Crosswalk Safety Project At West Shore Drive/Rail Trail

The work beginning Monday will include narrowing the road adjacent to crosswalks and painting new, high-visibility crosswalks.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead's efforts to improve crosswalk safety at several locations in town moves to the West Shore Drive/Rail Trail area on Monday with the work requiring lane closures over the next two weeks.

The project includes narrowing roads adjacent to crosswalks and painting new, high-visibility crosswalks.

Work in the West Shore Drive area was to begin on Monday with a lane closure traveling away from Lafayette Street for about one week. Starting on Nov. 14, there will be a lane closure on West Shore Drive traveling toward Lafayette Street for about one additional week.

To mitigate the effect on commuter traffic and nearby school drop off, work on the road will be delayed until 8:30 a.m. each day.

The project includes crosswalk work already completed at Mohawk and Smith Street.
