Marblehead Football Runs Past Revere [VIDEO]
The Magicians used the run and the pass to beat Revere Friday night at Piper Field, with opening night against Pentucket less than a week away.
Will Quigley scored twice, Gus Percy hit Colton Dana for an 18-yard score in the first half, and beat Revere 26-6 in the final tune-up before the regular season starts Friday night at home against Pentucket.
“We played much better than we did against Melrose (a scrimmage last week),” head coach Jim Rudloff said. “We were a little tight in the that one, we came out much better tonight and got an early lead."
Percy hit Dana cutting across the middle and his momentum carried him into the end zone, putting the Magicians ahead for good early in the first quarter.

Quigley scored on a 20-yard burst to make it 14-0 Marblehead in the second quarter before Revere managed to put some points on the board.
Revere’s star running back Drew Lauria flew down the Revere sideline for a 70-yard touchdown, the PAT was blocked, and the Marblehead D gave the Patriots all the points they were going to get on that one play.

Quigley made it 20-6 late in the second quarter, taking a hand-off from Percy at the 21-yard-line and charging into the end zone. The PAT was no good.
“I told Jimmy (Rudloff) to keep Quigley healthy, he really looked good for them,” Revere coach Lou Ciccatelli said after the game. “They blocked well for him, and once he gets on the move he’s really tough to bring down.”
“He’s a really special kid,” Ciccatelli said.
Revere opens their season Friday night against Medford. The Patriots beat Hamilton-Wenham and St. Mary’s during the exhibition season.
Marblehead’s scrimmage against Lynn English scheduled for Tuesday was wiped out because of the mess left by Tropical Storm Irene.
“Much better effort tonight, we were tighter on offense and on defense, even though we did give up two big plays,” Rudloff said.
In addition to the Lauria run, Revere quarterback Joe Ritchie hit Tom Portrait for a 62-yard gain in the second quarter. Marblehead stuffed Revere on the next three plays and forced a punt.
The teams changed to rotating 10 plays each in the second half and the Magicians kept Revere out of the end zone.
Zach Cuzner scored the final six points for Marblehead, running back an interception for a touchdown late in the game.
Gus Percy was lifted after being sacked late in the first half, Matt Millett and Ian Maag alternated at quarterback in the second half for the Magicians.
“The guys are glad to get this win, we made some nice plays, but there are a few things we still need to work on before Friday,” Rudloff said.
Marblehead opens the season Friday night at Piper Field against the Pentucket Sachems at 7 p.m.
