Marblehead Harbor Rotary gifts refrigerator to Lynn food pantry

The Rotary Club of Marblehead Harbor arranged the purchase and delivery of a commercial refrigerator to North Shore Families Together Food Pantry in Lynn. The refrigerator was jointly funded by the Marblehead Harbor Rotary club and a grant from Rotary District 7930.

Since March 2020, after specific food insecurity was brought to their attention, North Shore Families Together has been providing non-perishable food items and supplies to local families in need. The refrigerator will enable the organization to store and now distribute perishable foods including fresh vegetables, fruits and dairy items.

The refrigerator is a double-glass-door, full-height commercial unit manufactured by True Appliance. Tom Kulevich and Rick Cohen of Tri-City Sales in Salem facilitated the purchase. Tri-City Sales, a third-generation, family-owned discount appliance store, has been a landmark in Salem since 1959 with a second location in Ipswich, serving customers throughout New England.

Fellow Rotarian Bruce Whear, founding president and owner of Wire 4 Hire in Salem, was a consultant on the project.

The Marblehead Harbor Rotary Club has made food insecurity its primary focus during COVID-19 by helping to support the work of The Marblehead Food Pantry, Casa Mariposa in Lynn, and Salem State University students in addition to securing the refrigerator for North Shore Families Together.

Rotary District Managed Grants are a program of The Rotary Foundation to help local Rotary clubs fund projects up to $6,000 by matching the individual club’s charitable dollars on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
