Marblehead High Graduates Awarded Sterny's Way Scholarships

Sarah Martin and Isaac Grenader were awarded in memory of David Stern, a Marblehead youth sports coaching legend and arts supporter.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Two accomplished Marblehead High recent graduates were honored with this year's Sterny's Way Scholarships for their achievements in athletics, the arts and community service.

The $1,000 scholarships are in memory of David Stern, a Marblehead youth sports coaching legend and supporter of the arts.

Sarah Martin demonstrated a deep commitment to sports, music and community during her high school years. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the French Honor Society. She also was a member of the Performing Arts Program as a four-year member of the orchestra, and she served as vice president of Marblehead’s Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Martin was a two-year member of the varsity softball team, playing outfielder as a junior and starting at catcher this season. She also participated in winter track as a senior, throwing the shot put. She was selected as one of six captains of the Marblehead Powderpuff flag football team, which defeated arch-rival Swampscott, 35-7.

She volunteered with SPUR, a Marblehead non-profit focused on mobilizing volunteers in Lynn, Salem, Swampscott and Marblehead and at the Marblehead Animal Shelter.

Martin will attend Syracuse University in the fall. She plans to major in International Relations with a focus on conflict resolution. She hopes to pursue a meaningful career in global politics.

Isaac Grenader was a member of the orchestra since the fourth grade and has participated in independent violin study for ten years. He co-founded Marblehead High’s first chamber orchestra and led the 15-member group through weekly rehearsals and helped to foster a sense of collaboration, improvement and self-expression.

He was a member of the National Green School Society, which focuses on environmental issues and sustainability. He was passionate about animation and has taken online pre-college courses at the California Institute of Arts, as well as online workshops with former Disney animator Aaron Blaise.

He will attend Rhode Island School of Design in the fall, majoring in Film/Animation/Video. His ultimate goal is to start his own animation studio.
