Marblehead Honors 4-Year-Old 'Super JJ' With Make-A-Wish Crimefighting Day
A Make-A-Wish event in Marblehead celebrated JJ Weiss, 4, after a superhero-themed day across town.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead 4-year-old Jackson "JJ" Weiss was celebrated as a crime-fighting hero as part of a Make-A-Wish event that turned the town into his own superhero mission.
JJ, who is being treated for an aggressive brain tumor, spent the day as "Super JJ," rescuing the town from the fictional villain Triple Z with help from family, police and local organizations.
JJ was diagnosed in late 2024 after a visit to his local emergency room for persistent headaches. Since then, he has undergone brain surgery, high-dose chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and radiation.

Surgery complications left him mute and needing to regain use of his arms and legs for six weeks.
His family and peers began calling him "Super JJ," a name that became part of how he coped with treatment. When he received a wish through Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, he chose to become a real superhero.

The story began with a faux newscast warning that Triple Z was using evil lullabies on Marblehead residents. JJ then put on his supersuit and teamed up with his "Super Coach," brother Luke and sister Ellie.
The group later confronted Triple Z at Marblehead Lighthouse, where Super JJ trapped the villain under a net.
With help from Marblehead Police, Triple Z was taken to the police station. JJ later arrived at Seaside Park, where hundreds gathered to celebrate his efforts.
"We are so grateful to have played a small part in JJ's wish," said Police Chief Dennis King. "JJ's bravery is an example to all of us, and serves as strong reminder of why we do what we do.
"JJ is a true hero, and we wish him the best as he continues his brave fight with cancer."
The Marblehead Select Board declared March 29 "Superhero Day."
Select Board member Jim Zisson read the proclamation after Triple Z’s defeat.
Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island said JJ’s wish was its 11,000th granted wish and that the organization is working to grant the wishes of 385 local children this year.
The organization coordinated with Marblehead Police, the town and local groups to create the experience, including a Super JJ logo, costumes, missions around town, transportation by limousine and racecar, and a news conference after the villain was captured.
“This weekend, JJ got the opportunity to share his strength and bravery with the rest of the town, and the greater community,” said Town Administrator Thatcher Kezer. "I wish to thank Make-A-Wish for bringing this event to life for JJ and creating an unforgettable experience for him.
"JJ's story is an inspiration, and I am honored that we had this opportunity to celebrate him for his perseverance."
