Marblehead July 4 Horribles Parade, Festival, Fireworks Road Closures

Several roads will be closed for the town's Independence Day events on Monday.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A full day of festivities, fireworks and fun will be back in Marblehead this July 4 for the first time in three years, along with a series of road closures and parking restrictions to go along with them.

The Marblehead Horribles Parade street closures will begin at 9 a.m.

Pleasant Street will be closed between Spring Street and Washington Street by 3 Cod Tavern. Spring Street will become one way from Pleasant Street to Sewall Street. Essex Street will be closed during staging and the parade.

The parade route will be the same as in years past with the march concluding at National Grand Bank's parking lot.

Parade registration will be Sunday at Gerry 5 VFA from 6 to 8 p.m. and in the National Grand Bank parking lot from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

For the fireworks Monday night, Front Street will close at 7 p.m. with no parking from Franklin Street and Fort Sewall Lane. Franklin Street will be one way from Front Street to Washington Street. Washington Street will be one way from Franklin Street to State Street.

After the fireworks, traffic leaving the beach parking lots will merge with traffic from the neck with only a left or right turn allowed at the Ocean and Atlantic intersection. Front Street will be one way from Franklin Street to Washington Street.

Traffic from the area of State Street, Franklin Street and Pond Street will be redirected along Mugford Street and Green Street to Lake Shore Drive. The MBTA will follow the snow route from 6 to 11 p.m.

The Marblehead Festival of Arts will also take place on Monday.

From 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Washington Street will be closed between Rockaway Street and Darling Street. Both Rockaway and Darling will remain open to traffic. Hooper Street will be closed between Tucker Street and Washington Street. Mason Street will be closed between Tucker Street and Washington Street. There will be no parking on Washington Street from Rockaway to Darling.

Marblehead police strongly suggest that anyone doing business in the area relocate their vehicles before 11:30 a.m. as not to get blocked in.
