Marblehead Man Indicted for Girlfriend's Murder
The murder allegedly occurred in their home last December.

An Essex County Grand Jury handed down a murder indictment Wednesday against a 28-year-old Marblehead man.

According to a press release from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, John Devine of 27 Sparhawk Terrace in Marblehead, has been indicted for the Dec. 21, 2014 murder of his girlfriend, 51-year-old Tanya Nichols.

Devine has been ordered held without bail and Lynn District Court Judge Cathleen Campbell also allowed a motion by the Commonwealth to revoke his bail in an open assault case.
According to the DA’s office, a witness saw Nichols and Devine arguing the night before Nichols’ body was discovered in a pool of blood in the Sparhawk Terrace residence she shared with Devine.
The indictment moves the case from District to Superior Court, where an arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
