Marblehead Man Rescued from Last Week's Fire Dies
Investigators have also announced a cause for the blaze on Sewall Street.

The adult man Marblehead firefighters rescued during last week’s fire has died.
Marblehead Fire Capt. Michael Porter said the man died Monday, six days after the fire that began in the man’s second-story apartment at 13 Sewall St.
The man’s name and age have not been released.

Porter also said that investigators have determined the cause of the fire to have been a cooking accident. The exact nature of the cooking incident remains unknown, but investigators have traced the source of the blaze to the man’s kitchen. The investigation is ongoing.
Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 24. They arrived to find the fire showing through to the Jersey Street side of the building and bystanders yelling about a man trapped on the second floor. Firefighters located the man unconscious and badly burned just inside the door of his apartment.

Porter said a medical helicopter was requested, but the response time was longer than 30 minutes, so the victim was transported via ambulance to the hospital; a trip that took 24 minutes.
Five of the six units in the building were occupied at the time of the fire, but all the other occupants escaped safely.
