Marblehead Names Two Finalists For Superintendent's Post

The two candidates are Nantucket High School Principal John Buckey and Watertown Assistant Superintendent Theresa McGuinness.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead School committee narrowed the field of candidates for the vacant superintendent's position to Nantucket High School Principal John Buckey and Watertown Assistant Superintendent Theresa McGuinness. McGuinness joined Watertown Public Schools after starting her career in Nashua, NH and working as a principal at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Buckey is president of Massachusetts School Administrators Association.

Former Marblehead Superintendent Maryann Perry retired at the end of the 2018-19 school year after fallout regarding how school officials paid about $600,000 of 2018 bills with 2019 funds. An audit report showed school officials broke state finance law, as they never received permission from Town Meeting. The deficit was tied to special education out-of-district tuition.
