Marblehead Native Shalane Flanagan Takes Fourth Place in 2013 Boston Marathon
Shalane Flanagan, a former Marblehead High School star, finished an impressive fourth among a field of the world's elite runners.
Shalene Flanagan didn't quite win the whole thing, but the Marblehead native has a prestigious fourth-place finish in the Boston Marathon to add to her long list of accomplishments.
Flanagan ran the 26.2 mile course in 2 hours, 27 minutes and eight seconds, according to the Boston Athletic Association Web site.
She spoke to the Boston Globe shortly after crossing the finish line. The Globe said she thanked her parents and called her result "a really big moment."

Before the race, Flanagan told Runners World a win would have been a career-capping achievement.
Flanagan has set U.S. records in the 5000 and 10,000 meters.
