Marblehead Police To Host Next Citizen Academy

The Council on Aging will sponsor the next academy that begins on Sept. 9 and runs through Nov. 4.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The next Marblehead Citizen Police Academy will begin on Sept. 9.

The Council on Again will once again sponsor the academy for up to 20 Marblehead residents 18 years old or older.

Marblehead police said that those on the wait list from last year's academy will be contact to determine interest for the fall session that runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fridays weekly through Nov. 4.

Topics covered include history of the Marblehead Police Department, the evolution of modern policing, criminal law and procedure, traffic enforcement and investigations, as well as a K9 demonstration.

Chief Dennis King will give an introduction to the program that includes sessions with Marblehead officers and trips to the Essex County House of Correction and Lynn District Court.

A graduation ceremony will be held at the end of the course.

Participants must submit to a Criminal Offender Record Information check and a driving history check.
