Marblehead Residents Speak Out About Town Snow Removal

A Patch reader posted a question and ignited a flurry of response.

It was just a simple observation on the Marblehead Patch Facebook page:

When are the people of Marblehead going to get mad? The businesses downtown remain the snow removal priority for the town while our children walk in the middle of Humphrey and Maple streets in rush hour hour traffic. It’s time to change things before there is a tragedy.

Very quickly, there were nearly 70 comments from other readers and they run the gamut from sympathetic to downright irate. The thread is embedded below, but here’s a sample of what’s been said:

Diane Soule Worth: Get mad? How about get reasonable? These poor town employees have been working around the clock for well over a week trying to clean up 4 feet of snow, the likes of which I have never seen in my 30 years here in town ...Our small businesses should remain a priority, it’s hard enough for them to survive in a town with no parking and competition with online shopping, and their rent is still due come the 1st of the month!

Joelle Cardinale Lydon: The town hasn’t properly taken care of snow removal in years. Drive over the border to Salem Lynn and Swampscott and its a completely different story. I’ve had more stress over getting my kids to school in the past two weeks because I fear for their lives if they walk.
