The Marblehead School of Ballet (MSB) culminates its 2019 Summer Dance Intensive with a special Workshop Performance on Saturday, August 3 at 1:30 p.m. at 115 Pleasant Street in Marblehead, Massachusetts. The MSB invites the public to attend this free program.

A donation may be made to The Ruth N. Shiff Memorial Fund or the North Shore Civic BalletCompany (NSCB), a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization headquartered at the school. The NSCB gives concert performances and a variety of educational programs for schools; all are suitable for different age groups and levels of development.

The Workshop Performance features students enrolled in the MSB's 2019 Summer Dance Intensive and selected pieces from the NSCB's repertoire. The dancers will present a range of repertory from classical ballet to contemporary pieces, with some original choreography from the NSCB's resident choreographer, Ivan Korn. They will also perform choreography by New York City Radio City Rockette Jessica Davison, MSB director Paula K. Shiff, and dance instructor Nancy Murphy.

"The performance culminates the Summer Dance Intensive 2019 program and various technique classes. The dancers will perform the choreography they learned in the intensive third week of repertory focusing on technique, choreography, and rehearsals, ending with the production of the work. This is a big challenge for these aspiring dancers and also an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned in the program," said Shiff, recipient of Salem State University's 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts, who trained at the Boston Ballet and in New York and performed with the Boston Ballet Company.

Founded in 1971 by Paula K. Shiff, the Marblehead School of Ballet has earned a wide reputation for the excellence of its training and integrity of purpose. Classical ballet forms the core of teaching with particular emphasis on correct alignment and development of strength and agility. The sheer pleasure of dance and music is always central to the classroom experience.

The basic graded program for children includes classes in ballet technique with advanced work in repertoire and pointe. The school also offers a modern dance department, classes for young children in creative movement and classes in improvisation and technique for the older student. A full range of adult classes is offered.
