Marblehead School Committee Vacancy Interview Timeline Set

The successful candidate will fill out the remainder of the term through June after Meagan Taylor recently resigned from her position.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead School Committee has opened the application process to fill the open seat on the Committee following Meagan Taylor's resignation earlier this month with hopes of filling the position within the next two weeks.

Those interested in filling the seat on the committee through the town's next annual election in June are encouraged to send copies of a cover letter and detailed resume to the School Committee Chair Sarah Fox at the School Administration Office and to the Office of the Select Board at Abbot Hall.

The materials must be received by mail, hand delivery or email by 3 p.m. on Feb. 5. Electronic submissions are preferred. Late applications will not be accepted.

Fox said public interviews with the joint session of the School Committee and Select Board are set for Feb. 7 with a vote expected to take place that night after those interviews are completed.

The School Committee applications can be sent to Fox.Sarah@marbleheadschools.org with "School Committee Application" in the subject line, or sent via hard copy to 40 Baldwin Road, Marblehead, MA 01945.

The Select Board application should be sent to Attention (Select Board Chair) Ms. Erin Noonan at wileyk@marblehead.org with "School Committee Application" in the subject line, or sent via hard copy to 188 Washington Street, Abbot Hall, Marblehead, MA 01945.

Taylor resigned from the Marblehead School Committee on Jan. 8 — five months after she was the only member of the Committee to vote against accepting the forced resignation of former Superintendent John Buckey, and after what became repeated back-and-forth exchanges with fellow Committee members that appeared to signal dysfunction within the Committee.

This is the second year in a row the School Committee will fill a position in the final months of the term after Emily Barron stepped down from the Committee in October 2022 due to a self-reported conflict of interest. Tom Mathers was selected to fill out the remainder of her term but did not seek re-election in June.
