Marblehead Tabs New High School Principal, Assistant Superintendent

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Two major personnel pieces were put in place for the 2023-2024 academic year at Marblehead Public Schools with Superintendent John Buckey announcing the selection of the new high school principal and new assistant superintendent for teaching and learning for the district.

Buckey said Michelle Carlson, who has served as the Marblehead High assistant principal for the past nine years, will take over as the high school principal following the departure of Dan Bauer to become the new superintendent at Danvers Public Schools.

He also said on Thursday that Marblehead Village Middle School assistant principal Julia Ferreira has been picked as the district's assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, replacing Nan Murphy as she leaves to become the new superintendent at Dedham Public Schools.

"Both Michelle and Julia received robust support from their respective search committees, and both have the support and recommendations of their current principals, who have been mentoring them to take this next step in their respective careers," Buckey said in a letter to the school community. "Their knowledge of the district enables them to hit the ground running
and to continue the good work being done in curriculum, instruction and assessment at MHS and across MPS."

Buckey said he was grateful to the more than 30 students, parents, faculty and community members who participated in the search committees for the two administrative posts.

"They screened dozens of applications, participated in several rounds of interviews and thoughtfully deliberated in coming to a consensus for these very important roles in our district," he said.
