Child in Distress Turns Out to Be Halloween Decoration

The following information was provided by the Marblehead Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is an excerpt from the Marblehead Police Department's log:

Saturday, Oct. 6:

  • At 8:03 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Adams Road.
  • At 9:45 a.m., a resident entered the police station to report that her friend's car was struck overnight on Smith Street.
  • At 11:14 a.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity at CVS on Atlantic Avenue. A man in his 50's reportedly entered the store, put on a Halloween mask, and asked an employee if they had a mirror. The man also reportedly asked for a prescription at the pharmacy and the doctor told staff he was not a patient of his. Police reportedly notified employees at Walgreens and Village Pharmacy to be on the look out for the man.
  • At 11:43 a.m., police responded to a parking complaint on Village Street.
  • At 11:54 a.m., a makeup bag was reportedly found on the ground next to a motor vehicle on Smith Street.
  • At 11:55 a.m., a resident entered the police station to report that a backpack had gone missing at Seaside Park. 
  • At 1:35 p.m., police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Hillside Avenue.
  • At 2:30 p.m., police responded to a report of "four teens in a red vehicle possibly doing drugs." Responding officers determined that everything "checked out."
  • At 3:36 p.m., a woman called police to report losing her work apron overnight. The apron reportedly contained pay stubs and $320 cash.
  • At 4:05 p.m., a Chestnut Street man called police to ask to speak to an officer about a neighbor who has been harassing him.
  • At 4:17 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Atlantic Avenue. A resident reportedly called police to report that there was a "small child or infant alone on the wall crawling." Police later determined it was just Halloween decorations.
  • At 5:51 p.m., a resident entered the police station to report losing a set of keys on Atlantic Avenue.
  • At 5:55 p.m., a man called police to report that he received information that his son was planning to go to an underage drinking party.
  • At 7:19 p.m., a Broughton Road woman called police to report that her mother was out driving and she believed she was drunk.
  • At 7:30 p.m., police assisted a 77-year-old man on Flint Street who slipped and fell.
  • At 8:32 p.m., police responded to a report of a bike and two strollers left on the sidewalk on Harbor Avenue.
  • At 9:37 p.m., police responded to a report of fireworks on Village Street.
  • At 10:24 p.m., a man called police to report that someone was yelling and taking photographs of his car on Maverick Street.

  • At 1:26 a.m., police responded to a report of a loud party on Middle Street.
  • At 1:59 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Roosevelt Avenue.
  • At 12:49 p.m., police responded to a parking complaint on Shepard Street.
  • At 5:30 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Cliff Street.
  • At 5:34 p.m., police responded to a dispute between neighbors on Hammond Place.
  • At 8:34 p.m., police were alerted to a possible drunk driver heading inbound on Lafayette Street.

Monday, Oct. 8:

  • At 12:36 a.m., police conducted a property check on Lighthouse Lane.
  • At 1:14 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Harbor Avenue.
  • At 8:44 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm on Foster Street.
  • At 11:23 a.m., a Bayview Road resident called police to report check fraud.
  •  At 11:40 a.m., a woman entered the police station to get permission to enter her mother's house. The woman was told to get permission from her sister.
  • At 12:07 p.m., a woman called police to report that her sister had stolen a box from their mother's house on Lincoln Park.
  • At 1:56 p.m., police responded to a parking complaint on Walnut Street.
  • At 2:16 p.m., police conducted a property check on Woodfin Terrace.
  • At 2:18 p.m., police responded to an accidental 911 call from a home on Stonybrook Road.
  • At 3:49 p.m., a man called police to report cable fraud on Rolleston Road.
  • At 4:42 p.m., a Brookhouse Drive resident called police to report receiving suspicious phone calls from suspected scammers.
  • At 5:36 p.m., a Glover Square resident called police to report that a baby stroller was taken from the yard in front of their house.

  • At 12:29 a.m., police responded to a report of an MBTA bus that was stuck on Selman Street.
  • At 1:57 a.m., police responded to a report of glass in the street near the intersection of Pleasant and Devereux streets.
  • At 6:04 a.m., a tractor-trailer truck reportedly struck a Do Not Enter sign at the intersection of Pearl and Elm streets.
