MLT’s Summer of Music Series continues on Saturday, July 27, with “Holly & Higgs” staring local powerhouse vocalist Holly Cameron and keyboard genius Steven Higgs for an intimate performance featuring stripped down versions of R&B, Soul, Pop, and Jazz hits.
Praised for her “rip-roaring high notes” by the Boston Globe, Holly Cameron is well known in Marblehead as the soprano soloist for the Old North Church and Old North Festival Chorus. With degrees in voice performance from New England Conservatory and Cincinnati Conservatory, the classically trained soprano has been seen on both national and international stages and is a frequent featured soloist with New England regional choruses and orchestras. In recent years, Cameron has built a growing reputation as a soul singer, often collaborating with award-winning blues guitarist, Chris Fitz, in churning out high powered tunes from legends like Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Tina Turner, Patti LaBelle and more. Higgs’ music variety includes Standard and Big Band Jazz, R&B, Pop/Rock, Ragtime, Broadway and Film songs/themes, New Orleans Dixieland and Funk. Additionally, he studied classically for many years and has mastered Mozart and Beethoven Sonatas, works by Chopin, Bach, Scarlatti, Liszt, and Gershwin’s "Rhapsody in Blue,” to name a few. Higgs has been based in Metro-Boston since 1995 after years of studying and playing in New Orleans. He has several residencies in hotels & restaurants as a solo pianist, and is in high demand as a freelance musician with full bands, duos and trios, and singer-songwriters. He is also a session-keyboardist/pianist/accompanist and co-composer on various music projects in addition to teaching piano. For more information about Higgs, visit http://stevenhiggs.homestead.com.
