'Movie Money' Advancing Memorial Park Project

A portion of the redesign project at Memorial Park will be paid for with Grown Ups 2 money.

The ongoing redesign of Memorial Park will be completed thanks to funding from the Harold B. and Elizabeth Shattuck Memorial Fund and money the Recreation and Parks Commission raised by renting beach space to Grown Ups 2 film crews.

The Shattuck Fund will provide for the approximately $32,500 needed to complete the first phase of the project, which includes the installation of a four-foot wrought iron fence along Essex and Pleasant streets and granite posts at either end of the existing fencing.

To pay for the remaining steps of installing lights and repairing the park's central walkway, commission members decided to dip into the approximately $70,000 that was raised from renting out space for the filming of the Adam Sandler movie Grown Ups 2 this summer.

The first phase will be completed by workers from the Cassidy Bros. Forge, Inc., of Rowley, Mass., for $32,554. Commission members announced last year that the Shattuck Fund agreed to provide $40,000 toward the project.
