North Shore Civic Ballet to Perform in 7th Annual Dance for World Community Festival

See the North Shore Civic Ballet perform in José Mateo Theatre Dance Company's 7th Annual Dance for World Community Festival on June 13.

The North Shore Civic Ballet (NSCB) has been selected to perform in the José Mateo Theatre Dance Company Presents 7th Annual Dance for World Community Festival. The NCSB, a nonprofit dance company based in Marblehead, Massachusetts, will perform on Saturday, June 13 at 5:20 p.m. at Massachusetts Avenue between Remington and Bow Streets at Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The performance is free and open to the public.

The NSCB will perform Anastasis, choreography by Ivan Korn, set to Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, second movement (Andante con moto). Dancers Emma Barbin, Gabby Todtfield, Mia Chung, Haley Russo and Mollie Frederiksen will perform the piece.

“Anastasis, which in Greek means resurrection, is partly a time travel into the styles and affections of another century and partly a modern metaphor for community and individual self-determination. The movement is strongly inspired by the breathing of the string music of Schubert and the score’s gradual sense of urgency. Emerging from the dissolution of the community, a solo figure closes the dance with a gift of quietness. While a dance is difficult to relay in words, resurrection in this work is not the opposite of death, but of indifference,” said Paula K. Shiff, Artistic Director, NSCB
