Outstanding Singer-Songwriter, Kris Delmhorst, at me and thee on April 24

Kris Delmhorst writes intelligent and evocative lyrics; she'll be joined by The Winterpills. A great night in Marblehead

On Friday, April 24th, me&theehee coffeehouse opens its doors for a show with two-time Boston Music Award nominee for “Outstanding Female Singer/Songwriter,” Kris Delmhorst. The opening act is the harmonic duo, The Winterpills. Doors open at 7:30 PM for this 8:00 PM show at the me&thee coffeehouse which is located at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Marblehead at 28 Mugford Street.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Kris Delmhorst currently hangs her hat in small-town New England, after spending several years in Cambridge MA.. Her time there yielded two critically-praised albums made in collaboration with Morphine’s Billy Conway, with a colorful crew from the Boston scene. Delmhorst’s latest CD, Blood Test, is her seventh and its her first full-length CD of original songs since 2008 and it’s been receiving rave reviews. It contains a series of songs that move between triumph and heartbreak and it seems to resonate with fans and people who are just now discovering her music. Delmhorst’s catalog of music include moody journeys through rough emotional weather, swirling with dark, jangly guitars and shot through with bright rays of folk and bluegrass It’s this interesting swirl of musical mixings that make her songs appealing. Her music is always thoughtful and touches on many aspects of life that people cannect with on a daily basis. She is most definitely one of the most intriguing musicians in acoustic music today.

Starting with their debut in 2005, Winterpills have built a vibrant career with their exquisite chamber-pop songs that The Washington Post called “densely packed but hugely evocative, tiny bombs of feeling and meaning… fiendishly melodic.” From the group’s origins as a song circle for heartache, the band has truly blossomed, releasing several full-length albums — a self-titled effort in 2005, The Light Divides in 2007 and Central Chambers in 200, the 2010 E.P. Tuxedo of Ashes, which The New York Times Jon Pareles praised for “elegant arrangements” of “songs that stay haunted.” 2012’s All My Lovely Goners embraced the hushed vocal harmonies and graceful chamber-pop sound the group has made its trademark, while pushing the quintet into new sonic realms. MOJO magazine included the album in their 2012 top 10 Americana list. In October, 2014, Winterpills released their fifth full-length, the archival cover’s project Echolalia.
