Police: Publishers Clearing House Scam Reported

Excerpts from the Marblehead Police Department log.

Wednesday, Dec. 17

At 9:09 a.m., a crossing guard informed police that three cars went by him in the crosswalk that morning on Village Street. He said he told one of the drivers to go to the police station “to get some etiquette pointers about what to do when a crossing guard is in the crosswalk.”

At 9:22 a.m., a caller reported a lot of speeders at Cornell Road and Baldwin Road heading toward West Shore Drive. Police will monitor.

At 9:28 a.m., a Marblehead resident reported receiving a scam phone call. A man calling himself John Peters called the woman and told her that she won Publishers Clearing House and needed to go to CVS to get a Green Dot money card for $500. The caller said he would then go to her house and deliver the winning package. The woman did not follow through with the request and called police to alert them of the scam.

At 10:33 a.m., a bicyclist complained that a driver veered into his lane and scared him on Birch Street. Police spoke to the driver.

At 12:32 p.m., police arrested Lior Miriam Shemesh, 20, 11 Bradford Road, Danvers, and charged the person on a warrant for larceny more than $250.
