Reflections on Wild Ponies at the Abbot Library
Learn About Wild Assateague Island Ponies at public reception and film screening on Saturday, December 12.
On Saturday, December 12, there will be a special public reception, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., for the exhibit, “Reflections”: Oil Paintings by Rob Franco.
The reception will feature a screening, at 3:00 pm, of a short film (approx. 20 minutes) about “The Wild Ponies of Assateague Island,” the subject of several paintings in the exhibit. The program is suitable for all ages.
Assateague Island is a Barrier Island, off the Maryland coast, which lies to the east of Chincoteague Island. Assateague Island is approximately 38 miles long and protects Chincoteague Island from the Atlantic Ocean. The entire Island is a wildlife sanctuary, protected from development.

The beloved children’s book, “Misty of Chincoteague,” is set on Chincoteague Island.
Come learn about this amazing wild environment, on the Eastern Maryland coast, one of the few places in the United States where you can view wild horses. Light refreshments will be served. All attending will receive a wild pony photograph as a memento.
