Marblehead explodes for six straight goals in the second half, breaking a 12-12 tie, powering the Magicians to a 20-13 win over Georgetown.
Six different players chipped in with goals Tuesday afternoon, as girls’ lacrosse team knocked the Georgetown Royals out of the playoffs, 20-13 at Piper Field.
Things went great for Marblehead right off the bat, the team won the coin toss and scored two quick goals, the first by Meggie Collins the second from Hayley Braun.
Georgetown’s Madeline Canon made it 2-1 at 22:14, but Marblehead was back on top by two within six minutes before the teams began swapping goals until the halftime horn sounded.

Olivia Raisner made the score 9-7 Marblehead on a nice shot along the grass with 3:14 to go, the final score before intermission
Marblehead outshot the visitors 19-16 in the first half, with Paige Murphy under constant pressure in the Georgetown net, and Kelly Collins called on to make three nice saves on the Royals leading scorer Kristen Pingree.

The girls’ shut out Pingree in the first half Tuesday, the senior attacker had seven goals in an 18-12 Marblehead win in Georgetown on April 27.
More goal swapping to start the second half, Braun, Raisner, and Kiley Fischer scored to get Marblehead to twelve. The Royals responded with five goals of their own, including three from Pingree with Braun off for an illegal check. Madeline Cannon and Chelsea Burke also tallied for Georgetown, tying the score with 15:23 to play.
After the Cannon goal the wheels fell off for Georgetown (9-9), the Headers scoring six in a row to go up 18-12 with 4:06 to play. Braun, Raisner (2), Fischer, Collins and Tyler Phillips (2) connecting for a lead Marblehead (14-4-1) would never relinquish.
Royal attacker Michelle Reilly stopped the Marblehead scoring streak with a goal at 3:23, but Phillips came back with two more goals for the final 20-13 score.
Kelly Collins made 14 saves in the Marblehead net; her counterpart Paige Murphy had 18 saves in the loss.
Georgetown came into the tournament as the 13th seed; Marblehead earned the home game as the fourth seed.
Meggie Collins led the attack with five goals, Raisner had four, and Tyler Phillips had seven assists for Marblehead.
Marblehead placed five players on the NEC All Conference Team, Hayley Braun, Courtney Maag, Olivia Raisner, Meggie Collins (goalie Kelly’s younger sister) and Kiley Fischer. Tyler Phillips was named to the All Star team as an honorable mention and head coach Annie Pugh was named the NEC North coach of the year.
Marblehead and Georgetown both earned a bye into the first round game Tuesday. With the win, the Magicians get to stay home and play Bishop Fenwick at Piper Field, Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m., in the Quarterfinals of the Division Two North playoffs.
Fenwick earned a trip to Marblehead with a 19-10 win over Austin Prep. The Crusaders improved to 16-3-0 with the win, they are the fifth seed in Division Two North.
