Class of 2010: Salutatorian Headed to MD Program

This is the second in a three-part series about MHS students graduating Sunday

Max Sherman grew up hearing his mother's dramatic stories from medical school and residency.  In middle school,  he loved reading medical thrillers by Michael Crichton.  So it's no surprise that as a graduating senior at MHS, he already knows he wants to be a doctor.

With a GPA of 4.52, Sherman is the salutatorian of the Marblehead High School Class of 2010. He's headed to Brown University and its eight-year undergrad and medical school program. But first, he'll spend this summer working as a certified EMT here on the North Shore.

Guidance counselor Meredith Reardon says Sherman has what it takes. He's "determined, interesting, articulate, motivated, involved and imaginative," Reardon said.  He's also good with money, serving as class treasurer.

But it's on  the soccer field where Sherman made his fondest MHS memories. He played left defense, helping the Magicians score their best season since 2003.  "We beat Swampscott twice this year," he boasted.

After Brown, Sherman sees himself becoming a neurosurgeon and living in a big city;  possibly Boston or Los Angeles.   He'll miss his family and Marblehead, but, he says he is ready for a change.

"Right now I'm just excited to see new places and have new adventures," he said.
