Screen-Free Week Begins Monday in Marblehead

The Glover School is taking the lead in planning a week of activities that don't involve screen time.

What would you do with your spare time if you shut down all your electronic devices?

It’s a question the Glove School in Marblehead hopes to help folks answer May 4-10 during Screen-Free Week.

According to Glover School PTO member Stephanie Siden, the Glover School community pledges to “shut down all electronic devices (televisions, iPads, iPhones, video games, etc.) and replace the screen time with fun, community events run by Glover teachers, staff and parents,” throughout the week.

Events such as a town-wide scavenger hunt, Ultimate Frisbee, yoga, Bingo night and magic show are planned for the week. The Glover’s Got Talent Show will serve as a cap to Screen-Free Week on the following Friday, May 15.

“Remember, Screen-Free Week is about taking a break from digital entertainment,” according to screenfree.org. You can celebrate, and still use devices for work or school. But if screens of any kind interfere with family time (including meals), you may want to rethink how and when you’re using them.”
