Susan Dowds Honored for Work with Girls Inc. of Lynn

Marbehead resident Susan Dowds was honored at the State House by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women for her work as a mentor for Girls Inc. of Lynn. Each year the Commission partners with state legislators to identify women who make outstanding contributions to their organizations and communities. “We are so grateful to Susan for supporting our girls through the college application process for the past eight years,” said Deb Ansourlian, Girls Inc. of Lynn Executive Director.

The Unsung Heroines are women who don’t always make the news, but truly make the difference. They are the women who use their time, talent, and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others and make a difference in their neighborhoods, cities, and towns. They are mentors, volunteers, and innovators who do what needs to be done, without expectations of recognition or gratitude. These women are the glue that keeps a community together and every community has them.

Girls Inc. of Lynn’s College Mentoring Program offers seniors in high school the opportunity to work with a volunteer mentor to guide them through the college application process, including scholarship submissions and financial aid applications. Mentors receive training, materials and resources to help their mentees through the college application process.
