Taking the Trauma Out of Getting from Here to There

Rep. Lori Ehrlich and Senator Brendan Crighton to discuss resolving transportation and global warming issues in Massachusetts

Representative Lori Ehrlich and State Senator Brendan Crighton will join Josh Ostroff, Partnerships Director for Transportation for Massachusetts, to examine ways to resolve transportation and related global warming issues in Massachusetts. The public is invited to attend the event on Monday, February 25, at 7 p.m. at the Marblehead Community Center, 10 Humphrey Street, Marblehead.

The emphasis will be on empowering voters and communities to “take the trauma out of transportation.”

“Bumper-to-bumper daily commutes to Boston, sidewalks that give new meaning to “taking a trip,” sluggish or nonexistent public transportation, CO2 emissions that fuel global warming, road conditions that make biking an Extreme sport—these are hurdles that can be overcome if we exercise our power to make it happen,” said Renee Keaney, chair of the Marblehead Democratic Committee which is sponsoring the event.

The focus will be on transportation and climate, equity, congestion, revenue and reform, and how at the state and local levels we can prepare for tomorrow by perfecting some of yesterday’s travel modes.

Rep. Ehrlich will explain the Transportation Climate Initiative (TCI). Senator Crighton will describe recent bills he has filed for expanding the Blue Line to Lynn, reducing traffic congestion, and encouraging shared rides. Josh Ostroff, Partnerships Director for Transportation for Massachusetts, will summarize the statewide advocacy coalition’s mission and work, and review Massachusetts' transportation opportunities for the coming year in light of the recently published report of the Governor’s Commission on the Future of Transportation.
