Large Gathering Shows Sentiment Against Influx of Apartment Construction: "There were at least 150 interested persons present in the main auditorium at last night when Chairman John Pepper of the local Planning Board convened an open hearing in conjunction with the Board of Selectmen to find out what the sentiments were in regard to the recent building of a number of apartment houses in the lower part of the town. The audience was strongly in favor of doing something to prevent more situations such as had occurred at Pickett and Meritt Streets this spring."

Local Boys Shine on Athletic Achievement Tests: "Marblehead YMCA youth were recently presented trophies from physical director Paul Lydon for being the top ten scorers locally in the National Athletic Achievement tests, conducted by all Y's annually. Winners were: Mark De Nies, Frank Legro, Charles Dal Farro, Forrest Garrison, David Bouchard, Craig Maitland, Carl Varrell, Jerry Andrews and Clark Mitchell."
Marblehead Garden Club's Annual Plant Sale: "The Marblehead Garden Club will hold their annual Plant Sale at Old Fellows Hall on Saturday. Co-chairmen are Mrs. John R. Haug and Mrs. William M. Houghton."

Parade And Dedication Mark Little League Opener: Marblehead Little League opens its 12th season on Saturday, April 27. Prior to the opening game between the Red Sox and the Indians, a plaque will be dedicated in memory of Edward W. Farrell. Mr. Farrell was one of Marblehead's most public spirited citizens and one of the founders and leaders of Little League.
