Tower Lacrosse Off to Good Start

Tower School's girls' and boys' lacrosse teams are looking to continue their winning ways.

The following was submitted by Jennifer Burke, Tower School's Director of Communications:

Tower School boys varsity lacrosse kicked off the season with a big win against Waring School and have continued to hold strong with a 3-2 record.

“With a combination of experienced players and some new to the sport, this group of boys has really come together to play as a team,” says Coach Webb Thompson.

Eighth graders Gibson Cushman and Owen Rockett have been leaders in the midfield, while eighth grader Tommy Gabel has been a force on defense in games against Waring, Brookwoord, Glen Urquhart, and Shore. The boys JV team improved its record to 1-2 after a 13-3 win against Fessenden, which included key plays by sixth graders Jack Collins and James Sullivan.

“Everyone played really well and knew where to be. It was an amazing game,” says seventh grader Cristian Tidd. “It was a really important win to help build the boys’ confidence,” added Coach John Irons.

The girls varsity and JV teams, both with 3-1 records, have fought hard against opponents Waring, Phillips Andover, Shore, Pike, and Glen Urquhart.

Eighth grader Rosemary Scalise, a lead scorer, has been a driving force on attack, while seventh graders Mady McEachern and Corinne Mayle have made midfield connections to start offense plays and be active scorers.

The defense stronghold has been led by eighth graders Maggie Savage, Charlotte Polk, and Hadley Strainge, and seventh grader Mollie Smith. Eighth grader Lindsey Orne, varsity’s primary goalie, has made record saves that are consistently double the shots scored.

“It’s been a phenomenal start to the season,” says Coach Sig Orne. “Our athletes have shown leadership, game knowledge, and dedication to the sport.”
