TROUBLE THE DOG VISITS WITH CHILDREN AT MEETING STREET IN PROVIDENCE

Celebrated children's author Sheila Duncan shared a lively narrative of "Here's Trouble" which teaches children about hope and compassion.

Sheila Duncan, President of Larkin LTD. and co-creator of the loveable character Trouble The Dog® (www.troublethedog.net) met with the preschool class at Meeting Street (www.meetingstreet.org) in Providence, Rhode Island. Meeting Street is a place where children of all ages and abilities receive individualized attention from highly-trained,dedicated educators, therapists and staff who work as a team, sharing strategies and identifying solutions to bring out the best in every child. Meeting Street provides educational, therapeutic and diagnostic services to over 4,000 children and their families each year.

Seventeen preschool children were delighted to participate in a storytelling by Ms.Duncan and an introduction to the character Trouble The Dog. A sought-after plush toy, Trouble has been applauded by CNN and MSNBC as a “socially conscious comfort toy”, and a “healing plush” and as a therapy dog for children by the Boston Herald. The reading was engaging, interactive and entertaining as Ms. Duncan shared a lively narrative of “Here’s Trouble”, a children’s book she authored that takes young listeners through the adventures of this quizzical puppy. Trouble The Dog and his posse of friends help kids learn how to deal with the bumps in the road that life brings - gently and with humor. Trouble helps kids learn about hope, resilience and compassion.

“Sheila radiated such a warm, beautiful grace with the children,” said Ashley DeSimone, Manager of Special Events. “The event was well received by children and staff and was such a success because both organizations share a deep compassion for children and for higher learning.”

“At Meeting Street, we strive to be a national leader in child development, education, research and training,” said Cecilia Pirotto, Director of Marketing. “Hosting guests like Sheila for our classrooms supports this mission to expand our programs and provide learning in a fun, interactive and engaging way.”

“I was impressed by the positive energy and caliber of programs offered by this well-run organization,” said Duncan. “I am honored to work with this amazing group of caring people. The children really touched my heart. They immediately got the concept of Trouble as a symbol of hope, especially one little girl who said, “Let’s send hugs because everyone needs a hug!” Just precious.” The children participated in Trouble The Dog’s new social media campaign and had fun sending Trouble Bubbles of Hope to other students.

Duncan donated a Trouble The Dog plush for the classroom and signed books for each child to take home and share with their families.
