U12 Magicians Win In Gloucester

The U12 Marblehead Magicians have been one of the top five teams in the Middle-Essex Softball League all summer and their 21-13 win over the Gloucester Nor'easters, on Wednesday evening at Burnham Field in Gloucester, is a clear example of why.

Sarah Cuffe, Kaylyn Countie and Alexa Shapiro all pitched for the Magicians during the win. Cuffe pitched the first two innings, extending her personal record to 5-0 on the season. Countie struck out the side in the third and Shapiro came in to close out the game in the fourth.

Lindsey Rae played an exceptional game behind the plate, working with all of the pitchers and keeping everything in front of her.

"The girls had two outstanding practices leading up to the game and were hitting the ball with authority," said Coach George Shapiro, and this was quite evident during this match-up, as Marblehead scored seven runs in the first inning.

Eleven of the 12 Magicians had base hits in the game. Countie led the offense with three hits as Toni Vinciarelli, Alexa Brown, Caroline Tucker, Alexa Ehrenberg and Shapiro all contributed two hits.

Their 9-1-1 record puts the Marblehead Magicians in third place in the 39-team U12B Division of the Middle-Essex League.

The girls' last two regular season games are against Swampscott, at Swampscott Middle School, on Aug. 10; and the North Andover Scarlet Knights on Aug. 12 at Marblehead High School.
