U12 Mariners Blow Away Gloucester Nor'easters
Softball team improves to 4-2 with a 14-4 win on Tuesday night.
The U12 Marblehead Mariners softball team put on an offensive clinic Tuesday night, plating runs in all five innings they batted in their 14-4 win over the Gloucester Nor'easters on Tuesday night at Veterans Middle School.
The girls took the lead early in the game and never looked back, scoring four runs in the first inning. Jesse Pierce, who went two for four with four RBIs, had the hit of the inning when she drove the ball into centerfield knocking in two runs.
Gloucester cut Marblehead's lead in half in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs, but the Mariners quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Montana Joyce showed high base-running intellect as she stole home for the first run of the inning.

After scoring only one run in the third inning, the Mariners put together three straight singles from Emily Promise, Sue Payne and Zoe Daher, which led to another three runs for the home team.
In the fifth inning, Gloucester ran into some pitching difficulties, which resulted in a single from Montana Joyce, consecutive walks to Promise, Payne, Daher and Makenzie Joyce, followed by a single from Emily Tejada. Marblehead would accumulate four more runs in the inning, putting the game out of the Nor'easter's reach for good.
