U12 Mariners Fall to Malden
The Marblehead girls lost 10-0 to the undefeated Malden Hurricanes.
The U12 Marblehead Mariners ran into a very tough opponent in the Malden Hurricanes on Tuesday at Veterans Middle School. The girls from Malden held Marblehead to a single hit as they captured a 10-0 victory and extended their record to 6-0. The Mariners record fell to 4-4 with the loss.
Malden started off their scoring trend early in the first inning as Shannon Gibson and Haley Hoffman, the Hurricanes first two batters, crossed home plate on singles from Taylor Figueireo and Robyn Santo respectively.
Marblehead was able to stop the Malden streak in the first on a great defensive play from Ashley Stiles in center field. Stiles made a great catch on a Jaime MacDonald fly-ball, which she turned into a double-play by throwing Figueireo out as she retreated back to first base.

Emily Promise pitched well for the Mariners, throwing five strikeouts in a complete game effort, but the hot bats of the Malden girls proved too much for Marblehead.
The defensive highlight of the game for Marblehead came in the fourth inning, when Emily Tejada charged a MacDonald fly-ball into right field and came up with an amazing diving catch for the first out of the inning.

Malden's pitcher, Alexis Brown, controlled the game all night striking out 15 of the 25 girls she faced, including three strikeouts in the first, third and fourth innings.
The Mariners next game is against the Danvers Falcons on July 27 at Great Oak Park in Danvers, where they will hope to bring their game back into winning form.
