What's better than donuts and drama?

Marblehead Little Theatre announces a new play reading series... Donuts & Drama

MLT’s TNT – TOTALLY NEW THEATER -- PLAYWRIGHTS’ COLLECTIVE PRESENTS A READING OFLINDA WELTNER’S HILARIOUS NEW COMEDY, DOCTOR LOVE

Now in its seventh year, Marblehead Little Theater’s in-house new play development program -- TNT–Totally New Theater! – is announcing an exciting new initiative – Donuts & Drama, a Sunday brunch full-length play reading series.

On January 18th, the collective will present DOCTOR LOVE by former “Ever So Humble” Boston Globe columnist, Linda Weltner. The first act was performed by the Mugford St. Players at the 2009 Festival of Arts to standing-room-only crowds. A new second act now answers the question, What can a disillusioned marriage therapist do when his mother is desperate to marry him off? According to Linda, “the play is erotic without being pornographic. Due to my failing memory, I cannot remember ever having sex with anybody, so writing a play about something I remember nothing about has been a great, but not insurmountable, challenge. And lots of fun.”

Readings are open to the public, and all are welcome to join the collective for coffee and donuts, and post-reading discussion that will help the playwrights shape future drafts of each play.

Additional Donuts & Drama readings will follow in March, May and June. All readings are scheduled for 11:00 am, and MLT’s doors open at 10:30.

The 2014-15 TNT Playwrights’ Collective includes Judith Black of Marblehead, Shari D. Frost of Marblehead, Anne Lucas of Marblehead, Mary Beth Smith of Rockport and Linda Weltner of Marblehead.

TNT Producer, Shari D. Frost, says creating a home for local playwrights and new play development at Marblehead Little Theatre has been a dream-come-true. Initially conceived as an annual new play festival, Frost expanded the program last year to include year-round monthly workshops. (This year’s TNT Ten-Minute Play Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 30th.)
