Where is Marblehead's Oldest House?

They asked: "I enjoyed reading your recent article on the inside the Norden House on Glover Square! Is that considered the oldest house in all of Marblehead? Can you find out for us please?"

The oldest house in Marblehead is the Ambrose Gale House on Franklin Street, which was built around 1663, according to Historical Buildings of Massachusetts.

According to the site, the seal-gray house was built by Ambrose Gale, a fisherman who served as first selectman, testified in the Salem Witch Trials, and owned the land that later became .

The oldest wood-frame house in Massachusetts is the Fairbanks House, which was built in Dedham in 1637 - just in case you were wondering.
