100 Years Ago: Local Lecturer Says Christian Science is No Mystery

June 1, 1911: Marlboro People and Their Friends

Mrs. Lyman Stevens, who is 92 years of age, celebrated Memorial Day by walking from her home on Stevens St., to the home of Sylvester Bucklin, Church St., and making him a call. Mr. Bucklin is 95 years of age, and is in quite feeble health.

Men are no longer satisfied with that conception of God which gives merely a reasonable assurance of a heaven beyond the grave to those are found worthy. They desire to know God as a present help in every time of need., if it is possible thus to know Him. They are asking for present proof that they are solving life's problems aright and have not labored in vain.

There is no mystery in Christian Science save the mystery which enshrouds everything which is not understood. Christian Science can be understood, and when it is understood, it brings healing to the sick, comfort to the sorrowing, and strength and courage in the hour of trial and temptation. ...
