2018 ATHENA Leadership Award® Nominations Now Open

Framingham, MA—The United Way of Tri-County would like to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 ATHENA Leadership Award®. The ATHENA Awards recognizes a prominent leader in the MetroWest region whom consistently invests in their profession, their community and especially other women. They demonstrate leadership within their industry, mentor women throughout their career and dedicate themselves to the community through volunteer activities and charitable endeavors.

“Each year our ATHENA nominees exemplify the spirit of Athena- the goddess of wisdom, bravery, truth and fierceness,” said Paul Mina, President & CEO of United Way of Tri-County. “This year, we will continue to honor these exceptional leaders and community advocates who have worked tirelessly to advance the status of women in the MetroWest community,” said Mina.

Nominations must be received by Friday, December 15, 2017. The nomination form, which includes award criteria, is available on UWTC’s website (www.uwotc.org/athena)). To enhance the candidate's potential, it is extremely important that nominators complete the form in its entirety.

The Athena Award recipient will be announced on Thursday, March 8th, which is also International Women’s Day, at a luncheon hosted at the Framingham Country Club in Framingham, MA. Marcy Reed, Chief of Business Operations for National Grid in the U.S., will be the keynote speaker. “I’m very happy to be part of this great annual event that recognizes outstanding local women who give back to our community,” Reed said. Luncheon tickets are available online at www.uwotc.org/ATHENA. All money raised for this event will support United Way of Tri-County’s Read to Read program. Read to Read is an early literacy initiative, which began as an effort to equip young children with the skills needed to enter kindergarten. Ready to Read provides children ages 0-5 with 12 new books per year so they can begin their own home library.

The UWTC is a community building organization that brings people together to care for one another. It provides programs and services, connect volunteers, strengthen agencies, teach social responsibility, and meet the critical needs of the community with the help of people like you.
