I-495 Reopens After 4 Trucks Crash, Catch Fire

All lanes of I-495 were closed early Tuesday morning for hours as crews cleaned up fuel and debris.

BERLIN, MA — A nasty crash in the southbound lanes of I-495 early Tuesday morning finally cleared at 9:30 a.m. The crash involved three semitrailers and a pickup truck, and there were minor injuries.

The crash happened just after 3 a.m. near exit 26. One of the semitrailers caught fire after the crash, and three people were injured and taken to the hospital, according to state police. Their injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Police had to close the highway to clean up fuel and debris — some truck parts were melted to the road.

Traffic was diverted off I-495 onto Route 62 early Tuesday morning, causing long backups between Bolton and Marlborough.
