MARLBOROUGH, MA — The Marlborough Police Department is celebrating one of its own after being nominated for a state award.
Marlborough Dispatcher Robert “Robbie” Walker has been nominated for a Massachusetts Communications Supervisors Association Annual Telecommunicator Award. He is one of nine in the state nominated for Telecommunicator of the Year.
Police officials praised Walker as “a tremendous asset” who plays a major role in training new dispatchers. The department also highlighted his professionalism, knowledge and dedication to both the police department and the community.
"Dispatchers are truly the first, first responders, providing calm under pressure while helping both the public and responding officers during critical incidents," the police department wrote in its announcement.
The MCSA awards recognize emergency communications professionals across Massachusetts who work behind the scenes to answer calls, provide calm during crises and support first responders and communities statewide.
Awards are presented in four categories: Telecommunicator of the Year, Leader of the Year, Visionary of the Year and Team of the Year.
Award recipients will be announced during the Annual MCSA Meeting on June 10 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton.
Marlborough PD encouraged the community to congratulate Walker on the well-deserved recognition and wish him luck at the ceremony.
