MARLBOROUGH, MA — The World Cup is coming to Massachusetts, and Marlborough residents are invited to celebrate.
Marlborough will host a free regional fan zone at Kelleher Field, 45 Jefferson St., this June. This comes after Marlborough and Franklin received a share of $10 million in grants for a fan zone during the World Cup.
Marlborough Community Television shared an exciting video on Monday of Mayor J. Christain Dumais inviting residents to the regional fan zone.
The event is hosted by the Marlborough Economic Development Council, alongside the City of Marlborough, the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Metrowest Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Franklin, and the Metrowest Visitors Bureau.
In addition to watching the games on the Jumbotron, there will be food, drinks, and family-friendly activities.
Here's a schedule of the festivities at Kelleher Field:
The MetroWest Tourism and Visitors Bureau, along with 16 other recipients, received a portion of $10 million in funding, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced in March.
Through the Sports and Entertainment Events Fund Grant Program, Fan Zones will pop up in both Marlborough and Franklin.
This year's World Cup tournament will be hosted across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Back in 2022, Boston was confirmed as one of the North American host cities for this year's World Cup.
Massachusetts will host seven matches between Jun. 13 and Jul. 9. Games will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, with viewing parties and other special events set for City Hall Plaza and throughout the state.
