Marlborough Student Sworn In As State Leader For A Day

MARLBOROUGH, MA — An Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School senior was sworn in Tuesday as Massachusetts Probation Service "Co-Commissioner for the Day" in recognition of her academic, artistic and community service work.

Massachusetts Probation Commissioner Pamerson O. Ifill named Lilliana "Lilli" Sauer to the ceremonial role during a celebration at the Office of the Commissioner of Probation. Massachusetts Trial Court Chief Justice Heidi Brieger swore Sauer in as her parents, Christopher and Kristen Sauer, and her two younger siblings watched, according to school and court officials.

Ifill recognized Sauer for her academic achievements, artistic talent and volunteer work with local senior citizens. Her artwork was featured during the Marlborough District Court's Cultural Appreciation Week celebration last fall.

"I was so inspired by your work and the beauty of the concept of the piece," Commissioner Ifill said of Sauer's artwork.

Sauer also co-signed a Probation policy document with Ifill during the event. Court Administrator Thomas Ambrosino, Marlborough District Court First Justice Meghan Spring, Chief Probation Officer Lynn Dadekian, Probation Officer Ashley Losapio, members of the commissioner's executive team and Marlborough Public Schools employees attended.

Sauer plans to attend the New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island this fall, where she expects to study animation or game design. She is an artist and Honors Society student who also volunteers on trips to local senior centers, where she helps residents with technology issues.

Sauer is known for her "kindness, creativity, and drive, which makes her someone who not only dreams big, but also makes a meaningful impact on those around her."

She is the fourth student leader to be sworn in as co-commissioner in recent years. Previous honorees included Tairih King, then a 9-year-old honors student who had undergone treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma, Xander Rueyevean, a Charlestown High School junior, and Marli Forrester, a Mattapan student leader in ninth grade.
